10 New Finishers!

It was a glorious day to be on the trails (if not such a glorious night on the court for the Heels). Thanks to all who joined us either running, hiking, bushwhacking or crewing. And for 10 new finishers, it was awesome to see them complete their first end-to-end TarDevil.

Congrats to each of the first timers:

Tumblr

Yogi

Gilly

Lego

Ram

Speedo

Sputnik

Jacque the Dave

Kimberly the Dave

Graham the Dave

And, in addition to them, Snuffy, Dropkick, Kuhlaid and I completed our third and Turtle completed his second TarDevil. Additional moral support and pacing duties came from Gumbi, Grub, Twitch, Bobcat, Wackus, Goofus, Squonk, Morph, David the Dave; Tiny- who powered through the longest, toughest up and down bushwhack section of the day after Morph’s and finished up a strong 10 miles with us.

And how about that Marmot sighting...an OB (Original Bushwhacker) who took me off trail the first time back in 2006 or so. Welcome back.

And nice to see Ringo, Nymph, ET, Hodag,

Wycked, et al at Sewell AS1. What a great group, ya’ll. See you soon.

A few other shout-outs:

  • Mrs. Skrapple - For her complete commitment to the entire day from early morning drop-off, to food fuel preparation, to staffing and leading our Aid Stations all day and also shuttling a few Trailheads to various places. (and Mimi Skrappette for helping out at two of the aid stations)

  • Morph for graciously sharing his lovely home with us for aid station 4

  • Bobcat for a serious supply of beverage, gel and shot block supplies

  • Kuhlaid for his contribution to the provision fund

  • Dropkick for his help mapping out the course changes this year

  • Wisp for her awesome art work for the shirt design

While the long-term objective to establish a permanent foot-path from UNC to Duke is moving along just faster than a snail's pace, I'm confident that everyone who was out there today got a sense of how lucky we are to have these woods in our back yard.

Here's to our next TarDevil, Mar 6, 2021, when we will do the return from Duke to UNC.
